However, just how many varieties are there? Well, there are over 30 different date varieties but these are some of the popular ones (they are also the ones that we have available):
1. Deglet Nour Dates
Deglet Nour dates (or “Date of Light” in Arabic), are known for their exquisite flavor. They are harvested semi-dry when they are light to dark brown in color. Each date weighs 8-11 grams and is available all year round. Deglet Nour dates are rich in vitamins and minerals. They are an excellent source of fiber and Potassium and also high in energy. As a healthful snack, Deglet Nour dates contain no Fat, Sodium or Cholesterol and can be used to make cereals, confections and baking.
We also have them on branch which looks like this:
2. Medjoul Dates
In the olden days, Medjoul Dates also known as “The King of Dates” and were reserved for royal hosts and other dignitaries. Centuries later, the Holy Land of Medjoul dates played a significant part in the welcoming reception organized by Jesus’ followers when He entered Jerusalem. The path beneath Jesus’ feet was laid out with Medjoul dates palm branches and Jesus feasted on these dates. This is the reason Christians celebrate Palm Sunday on the week before Easter. Today, these majestic candy-like Dates are rapidly gaining sway over snacks and dessert lovers throughout the world.
Medjoul Date tree is known as “The Tree of Life” and is a holy symbol to the Muslim people. The tree has had many uses in the cultural world of the Middle East. Medjoul Dates are the biggest – most beautiful dates grown. Nearly twice as big as regular dates, they are deliciously sweet, moist but firm, not sticky. They vary in color from light to dark brown depending on the area of origin. They are harvested at the peak of ripeness, naturally sun-cured and quick-chilled to lock in moist freshness. Each dried date weighs 15-23 grams and are available year round.
The next two date varieties are very new to the market and we are very proud to be the first to present it to you.
