So we thought, why not make this decision easier for you all – we are giving you an inside to our chosen list of restaurants for the year.
So let’s see who made it to our list shall we!
OSKAR BISTRO
Location: Sukhumvit Soi 11
Cuisine: Fusion
https://www.facebook.com/OskarBangkok
This is definitely one of the restaurants that made it because if its tasty food, great service and consistency. For those of you who enjoy a good variety of cuisines, this is the place to go. Moreover, their cocktails and desserts are very interesting too. Some dishes worth trying are the Oskar Pizza and the Phuket Salad and of course, how can I forget their calamari – best ever!!! Trust us, you won’t be disappointed!
MUGENDAI
Location: The Helix Quartier (Emquartier)
Cuisine: Japanese
A real high end Japanese restaurant offering all kinds of fresh quality sushi, sashimi and interesting rolls. The reason we say this is because you can actually taste the freshness in the meat and seafood there. Yes the price is also relatively on the steeper side but it is definitely worth it. One sushi you must try is the foie gras sushi – one of the biggest foie gras pieces on a sushi I have ever seen! Definitely worth it!
P.S. They also have another restaurant under their brand called Muteki which is located at Empire Tower and La Villa Ari – so if you’re working around there or you live nearby, make sure you head there to try some of their awesome food!
SORRENTO
Location: Sathorn Soi 10
Cuisine: Italian & Mediterranean
https://www.facebook.com/SorrentoSathorn/?fref=ts
Previously known as Zalute, this newly revamped restaurant is one place that will always be on our top picks simply because we have been supporting this venue, since a many many years ago. Many of you may not know of this restaurant but it is one of the best restaurants serving some amazing pastas, salads and grilled seafood. Order any type of pasta, and you will be happy. Not to mention, their grilled seafood is tasty, juicy and super fresh! This restaurant is relatively old as compared to the other ones mentioned but it had to be on the list. Visit them and you will know why 😉
BROCCOLI REVOLUTION
Location: Sukhumvit Soi 49
Cuisine: Vegan
https://www.facebook.com/BROCCOLI-REVOLUTION
We knew that sooner or later, a restaurant like Broccoli Revolution would open because Bangkok has been waiting long for this. With the increase in popularity of people eating healthy and enjoying a vegan diet, this place even hits the spot for those who are true meat eaters. The food is absolutely healthy, guilt-free and most of all, it tastes amazing. Their known for their super tasty juices and their quinoa burger! If this is on our “to-try” list, better make a visit soon! You will totally agree with us.
PEPPINA
Location: Sukhumvit Soi 31, Maharaj and Sriracha (Newly opened)
Cuisine: Italian
https://www.facebook.com/peppinapizza
Thought you had the best pizza in the world? Well, your highly mistaken if you have not tried Peppina’s Tuffle Pizza yet. The first time I had it, I was literally in heaven. Never had pizza taste so amazing and soft and PERFECT!! Besides the delicious truffle pizza, they have some amazing Buratta cheese, Quinoa Salad, Bruschetta and oh their crab linguine pasta is also super amazing! This is a real happening place people – I suggest you head there tonight, if you have no plans. Just a quick tip – maybe make a booing before just in case as they get super busy!
LADY BRETT
Location: Sathorn Soi 12
Cuisine: BBQ & Grill
A nice chilled out and comfortable venue serving some amazing grilled meats and seafood. This place will remind you of most of the restaurants in Europe – especially London. The food menu is only one page long but it is enough to enjoy a great starter, main and dessert. Whatever you pick, you will be extremely satisfied. Some of the things we would recommend would be definitely the Rocket Salad – it’s so simple but yet so tasty. Also, for the mains – you won’t go wrong with anything you pick. Everything is grilled perfectly with just the right amount of seasoning. Oh and lets not forget the side dishes – a definite must have is the Spicy Miso Eggplant and the Truffle Fries! Two words – SO GOOD!
GREYHOUND CAFE
Cuisine: International & Fusion
I am pretty sure many of you agree with me that Greyhound is one of the most consistent restaurants ever. No matter which branch you go to, the taste is always the same and the food is always great. The well-known dishes at greyhound are the complicated noodles and the Yum Salmon Sashimi. However, let’s not forget all the amazing pasta and rice dishes on their menu too. This is a great place for brunch, lunch or dinner as it caters to everything.
ROCKET COFFEE BAR
Location: Sathorn Soi 12
Cuisine: Breakfast
https://www.facebook.com/RocketCoffeebar
To be located next to this wonderful breakfast place would be a treat. Imagine having the most wonderful eggs benedicts everyday along with some amazing coffee. Just with these two things – it could satisfy your taste buds. Oh and make sure you get an extra side of pancetta with the eggs benedict – it is honestly the perfect combination. Of course, this place is a great option for lunch too but the eggs benedicts and the coffee are what I go for.
KAZE FRESH JAPANESE RESTAURANT
Location: Sukhumvit Soi 55 (Thonglor)
https://www.facebook.com/kazefreshthailand/?fref=ts
Speaking of Japanese food, the first place that comes to my mind is Isao. However, having tried this place, I think I can reconsider. The food is fresh, tasty and you get a great value for the money your paying. The restaurant is located on the main road on the right hand side, two storey’s and not many tables. But, every time you go there, the place is always full. The chefs table on the first floor is their main attraction I feel – it is where you can see how the chefs prepare each dish to be served and I must tell you, everything is absolutely fresh which is so important when you’re having sushi or sashimi. Whatever you order on the menu, you won’t go wrong – everything is super tasty! I say – definitely one of the tastiest places I have ever been to.
TAPAS CAFE
Location: Sukhumvit Soi 11
http://www.tapasiarestaurants.com/
The only place I can think of when we decide to go for Spanish food is Tapas Cafe. Having been to Spain, I think I have been able to master how authentic Spanish food should be and I must say this place has got it right. The service is great, the food is consistent and to top it off, I think they serve some of the best Sangria’s in BKK town. Some of the “must order” dishes as the patatas bravas, cured hams and sausages and the Gambas al Ajillo (Prawns in Olive Oil). If you are a fan of goat cheese, then you must try their goat cheese salad – it is amazing! Oh and lets not forget the very famous “Paella” – just make sure it is the first thing you order because it takes quite a bit of time to make. Easily this is one of the best Spanish restaurants in Bangkok.
LA MONITA TAQUERIA
Location: Mahatun Plaza (BTS Ploenchit)
https://www.facebook.com/LaMonitaThailand/?fref=ts
Now, usually I am not a big fan of Mexican food because I just find that some places they just lather on the cheese and beans. However, La Monita differs from the rest. I discovered this place with one of my friends and I must say that I absolutely love it. The flavors, the taste and the fact that they put appropriate amounts of cheese and beans in each wrap. Put it simple – it’s not overflowing! Having various types of salsa’s that you can choose from is another plus point. Being a spicy eater, I totally enjoy raiding the salsa bar. Some of the things that I would normally order are of course the nachos, the salad and the fajita’s on the hot plate. Simply satisfying!
So there you have it, our top picks for 2015. Hope this gives you a bit of insight to each of the restaurant and helps you in deciding where you want to spend your Christmas and New Year dinners this year. Or if you’re like me, you might just pick one to try out this week itself.
Anyway, wishing you all a healthy, happy and joyous Christmas and New Years. And see you again in 2016.
(P.S. In case you’re wondering, we have asked our staff Reena and Ning to give their input for this blog as they are complete foodies and have tried all the restaurants above.)
